Hair Additions

SMP creates the appearance of hair at short lengths. When you want actual length and volume, hair additions are the answer — and the two work well together.

Hair Additions

Where additions do what pigment cannot

Scalp micropigmentation is a two-dimensional treatment. It is extremely effective at simulating closely cropped hair or closing gaps beneath existing hair, but it cannot give you length, movement or volume. Hair additions can. They are the right choice when the look you want is hair you can run your fingers through.

The category covers several things: full hair systems that attach to the scalp and are cut and styled like your own hair; toppers that add volume over a thinning crown or part while your own hair remains; and extensions or additions that add length and density to existing hair.

Fitting matters more than the piece itself. A well-matched system with a poorly blended front line looks obviously wrong, while a modest one fitted and cut properly is genuinely undetectable. We assess your remaining hair, colour, texture and lifestyle before recommending anything.

Additions may suit you if you

  • Want visible length rather than a shaved appearance
  • Have advanced loss but do not want to shave down
  • Need volume through a thinning crown or widened part
  • Have traction alopecia and want length while it recovers
  • Want a non-permanent option you can trial first

Combining additions with SMP

The two treatments solve different halves of the same problem, and pairing them is common. SMP under a hair system darkens the scalp so that if the parting shifts, or the front line is caught in strong light, there is no pale scalp visible underneath. It makes the system far more forgiving day to day.

The same applies to toppers over a thinning crown: density SMP underneath means the base is never visible through the hair. If you are considering both, mention it at the consultation so the pigment placement can be planned around where the piece will sit.

Questions

About hair additions

It depends on the base material and how you care for it, but most systems are replaced periodically with maintenance visits in between for cleaning, re-attachment and re-cutting.

Yes with a properly attached system, though the attachment method affects how much water exposure it tolerates. We will match the method to how you actually live.

It comes down to the length you want. If you are comfortable at a buzz cut or shorter, SMP alone is lower maintenance and less expensive over time. If you want visible length, additions are the only route. The consultation is free and we will tell you plainly which fits.
